PAR-TY Time

This weekend was filled with party after party. Busy-ness the whole time, but wonderful to be with friends!

Friday afternoon was the Christmas party at my office at Dave & Buster's. Since this year is the 25th anniversary for D&B, they went all out on the party. Some great catered Italian food, poker dealers, karaoke, great prizes and more. I will say that I'm sad that I didn't get any of the raffle prizes, but there's always next year. The best part of the afternoon was the karaoke by far. Here's a mild sampling of the many different talents... some good, some not so good but having lots of fun!

On Saturday evening, we had our 3rd Annual Christmas Party with our small group, minus one couple (we missed y'all, Sarah and Tyson, but hope that y'all had a Happy Anniversary). Drew and Jamie hosted the night out to see the Christmas lights in Grand Prairie. Let's just say the fellowshiping with friends was the best part about it. The lights were not all that they advertised, therefore not many pictures were taken. You'll notice one picture... is it a reindeer or a spider? We're not sure? The night ended with a late night run by the guys to Sonic... we (the girls) were all starving! Thanks for a great night Libby's!!

So on Sunday afternoon, Zach and I had lunch and a gift exchange with the Sunday school class that we are a part of. I will say that I have been a Big Time a whole lot more this semester than in Sunday school, but we love the people in our class. It's lead by a couple that did one of our marriage counseling classes, so it's very special to us. So Zach and I brought one of the best gifts of the day... a Chia Pet! It was one of the only gifts that was stolen. Go figure. We ended up with a White Elephant piggy bank and a little tealight lamp.

Sunday night... we began our anniversary celebration early. D&B treated us to a nice dinner and some games and then Zach and I went out to look at the lights in Highland Park. It wasn't so much looking at the lights as it was looking at the beautiful houses. So we totally redeemed ourselves from Saturday night's lights spectacular.

On our actual anniversary (2 years, I might add), we celebrated with the day of from work for both of us. We made a delicious breakfast at home, then we got ready for the day to go to the ICE exhibit at the Gaylord Texan. But before that happened....

There was a little beagle wandering around out behind our house on the trail. No one was with him, so I took it upon myself to go get this dog and rescue him. I got the leash and rounded him up and brought him to our house. He was the sweetest little pup, but Bailey sure was jealous of him. We gave him some food and water and let Bailey play with him for a little bit and then we left to go to the Gaylord. We decided that we would take him to the vet to see if he had a micro chip because he didn't have any tags. Well, we thought about him all day and when we got home from the exhibit he was gone. He either hopped the fence (not likely) or his owner was calling for him and he barked and they took him (most likely). So I hope that the little guy is safe and sound because I was about to claim him for my own.

The Gaylord was wonderful and it was the best to just spend some much needed time with my hubby. We also went to dinner at the Macaroni Grill that night and watched Elf. Of course, I fell asleep during that though.

So that about wraps up our party/anniversary weekend. It was great!! Only two more days and I'm off until 2008!! Isn't that great! Hope the holidays are going well for y'all!

(still working on the anniversary, and party pics, to be updated soon!)

Christmas Survey

I was tagged by Neena Jean to do this fun little Christmas Survey...

1. What kind of tree do you have?
Artificial and we string our own lights on the tree. The prelit trees can create problems if any of the lights go out. ;)

2. What is your favorite Christmas movie?
Chevy Chase's Christmas Vacation, Home Alone

3. What is your favorite Christmas holiday food?
I love dressing, and sweet potatoes with marshmallows.

4. Do you use wrapping paper or gift bags?
Wrapping paper all the way. I even saw a demonstration last year on how to wrap the perfect gift, I'm still trying to get their skills down.

5. Do you have a nativity scene in your house?
Nope, no nativity scene. I didn't have one as a child either.

6. What is your favorite Christmas song?
As of recently, my favorite Christmas song is Celebrate the Day by Relient K.

Here's the lyrics...

With this Christmas wish is missed
The point I could convey
If only I could find the words to say to let You know
How much You've touched my life because
Here is where You're finding me
In the exact same place as New Year's Eve
And from the lack of my persistency
We're less than half as close as I wanna be

And the first time that You opened Your eyes
Did you realize that You would be my Savior
And the first breath that left Your lips
Did you know that it would change this world forever
And the first time that You opened your eyes
Did you realize that You would be my Savior
And the first breath that left Your lips
Did You know that it would change this world forever

And so this Christmas I'll compare
The things I've felt in prior years
To what this midnight made so clear
That You have come to meet me here

To look back
And think that
This baby would one day save me
And the hope that
That You give
That You were born so I might really live
To look back
And think that
This baby would one day save me…

And the first time that You opened Your eyes
Did You realize that You would be my Savior
And the first breath that left Your lips
Did You know that it would change this world forever
And the first time that You opened Your eyes
Did You realize that You would be my Savior
And the first breath that left Your lips
Did You know that it would change this world forever

And I
I celebrate the day
That You were born to die
So I could one day
Pray for You to save my life
Pray for You to save my life
Pray for You to save my life

7. What is the most memorable gift you received as a child?
Probably my cell phone. I still have the same phone number from when I got my phone sophomore year in high school.

8. What was the worst gift you ever received?
hmm... are there really any bad gifts?

9. Most annoying thing about this time of year?
Crowds and traffic.

10. Favorite thing about this time of year?
Family and vacation time.

Now I'd like to know about your Christmas... Lindsey, Arrie, Shevawn, and Lauren.

Two down, 4 to go....

The Christmas season brings many exciting things and many busy times. How is it that before Thanksgiving was even here all of my weekends in December were booked. I'm not complaining by any means, but it just means you have to be diligent in getting things done because all the weekend time is taken up.

So with that being said... this weekend Zach and I attended two Christmas parties. One was an appreciation dinner for the family ministry volunteers at the Branch. We celebrated Hawaiian style at church and all got to wear leis. Sadly, there are no pictures of us at the party, but we did get a great picture of Bailey wearing our lei.
After that party, was Zach's Christmas party for Home Depot. Circle R ranch with a hayride and BBQ. It was good, but I must say that we didn't eat at that party, we had just come from the church party. Too much food can't be good. ;-) I met several people that Zach works with and we had a good time. We missed out last year because it was on our anniversary.

I think that I am most looking forward to my sister's ornament exchange this weekend as well as our small group Christmas light outing the next weekend.

I hope that everyone is ready for the season and that you're having fun shopping. I'll leave you with this awesome video of Bailey getting her hair brushed. She could hardly contain herself, it felt so good.

Thankfulness!

Last week was full of thankfulness. There was lots of time spent with friends, family and resting. I had the whole week off and enjoyed every minute of it. Lots of things got done during those days off... lots of Christmas shopping, Christmas decorating, gathering addresses for Christmas cards, cleaning the house. It was great to be productive.

On Friday before Thanksgiving, our friends, Mark and Shevawn, hosted a "Wii are Thankful" party. It was so much fun to have couple's tournaments on the Wii, we ended up playing for 5 hours. Craziness, but the winner of the night, took the Wii for Thanksgiving week. Sadly that wasn't us, but congrats are in order to the Libby's. Hopefully there will be pictures of the event soon.

The next few days were spent shopping... Zach and I have marked off almost everyone on our list. It's a good feeling to have that done. Now I just have to get Zach's presents and I think he's still working on me as well. ;-)

Wednesday, Zach had to work from 10am-7pm. We were hoping that he would have the early shift, but it ended up being smack in the middle of the day, so we decided to leave for Memphis on Wednesday night when he got home from work. The car was packed by the time he got home and we headed out the door and were on our way by 7:30pm. It made for a long drive, but we arrived in Marion, AR at 2:45am at the same time that his brothers drove up. All four of us piled into the house with all of our dogs and crashed. The weekend was spent with lots of food, family and 7 dogs. (Mind you 3 of those dogs were puppies that were only 4 days old.) It was a good Thanksgiving spent with Zach's family and we were glad to be able to make the trip. We also got to see Zach's best friend, Curtis, who is newly engaged to his wonderful girlfriend, Jessica. What a blessing they are to each other. Very exciting! Too bad there are no pictures to show for the weekend. Saturday morning, after a full two days spent with Zach's family, we got up at the crack of dawn and were out on the road by 6:30am. Zach again had to be at work at 2pm. We made it home by 1:15pm and were exhausted. We were just thankful to be home safe and sound. God provided for us along every point in the trip and made it a wonderful time.

I'll leave you with the pictures of our Christmas decorations around the house for the first time...

Zach and I will celebrate 2 years in about 3 weeks. Time flies when you're having fun!

Our tree fits so much better in the house, than in the apartment. I love it!

My favorite star lights from IKEA... if I could I would buy every star that I could get my hands on.

I've never had a banister to decorate. It's kinda cool!

Penguins from Target... one of my favorite places!

Hope that everyone else had a great time decorating. It's going to be a great holiday season!

Storage Solution

Alright, this is long overdue. These are finally some pictures of the office. There are two corners of this room that I will not publish yet because they are just not up to par yet. But this is the latest addition to the Shirley household.

We had storage problems with cds and dvds. We also had disagreements on how they should be stored... SOOO... last weekend we went shopping at one of my all time favorite stores, IKEA! They had everything that would could imagine as far as storage goes, but that had one very obvious choice for us because it was just so stinkin' cost effective... so we got eight shelves to hold cds and dvds and now they no longer take up space in the closet. What a wonderful solution. Take a look....

I will say that hanging the shelves on a diagonal was not my idea, but I went with it. The shelves are Kermit the frog green and gray. We are very thankful for the designers at IKEA for providing such wonderful storage solutions. Stay tuned for an update on the office once it's finished!

Halloween 2007

A week later and we have a post about Halloween. Halloween was fun this year... Dave & Buster's accounting dept. had a dress up contest, so I thought that I would give it a try. Tuesday night before the big day, Zach and I rounded up some of his clothes and I made myself the perfect mechanic outfit complete with grease and a grease rag. It was great... below are some of the contestants... Tropical Depression, Harry Potter, D&B Baseball Player, Number Cruncher, and Calendar Girl. I'd say we're a pretty creative bunch in accounting. Anyway... I won the contest with my mechanic's outfit and Harry rounded up 2nd place.

On Halloween night, we dressed Bailey up for all of two seconds in order to take her picture. You can tell that she just really loves her outfit especially the little helmet. This was actually last year's fire hydrant costume. We decided not to get a new costume because we weren't going to be home for the evening to show her to trick or treaters. So what did we do you may ask...
We were the kitchen helpers at The Branch Fall Festival on Halloween night... we made hot dogs and nachos all night long. When we got to the church building all our friends asked if I was dressed up as "zach". Nobody at work asked that, but they just don't know him. My entire outfit though was Zach, no doubt!
The boys: Tyson, Josh, Mark and Zach.
The girls: Jessica, Sarah, me, and Shevawn.
And last but not least... we got Bailey a new toy this week at IKEA. You may think..... hmmm strange place to shop for dog toys. I will say though that this toy cost just as much as it would as a pet store and she loves it!!! The snake swallows her whole. The only stinky thing is that she has already put several holes in it. She also ripped the tongue out of it in the first two minutes of playing with it. It sure does keep her entertained though!

Concerts and Pumpkins

Ok... so this weekend was filled with tons of fun.... it all started with one of the greatest concert ever... Relient K and Switchfoot. There was also a band called Ruth, that opened for them. It was so awesome because two of mine (and Zach's) most favorite bands were in concert together. It was so loud that I couldn't even hear myself, but it was so worth it. They played all the favs... Sadie Hawkins, The 80's song, We were meant to Live, This is your life... it was all fantabulous! Here were are on our way to the concert... Zach may not look happy but we had a great time!So yesterday we went on a hunt for the best carving pumpkins that we could find. Being that Halloween is only 3 days away, there weren't too many to choose from. We bought 2 pumpkins at a nursery and there were only about 10 to choose from. Slim pickin's... We started carving away last night and this is how they turned out...
I carved stars all over mine... maybe it was because I had been to hear Switchfoot and they sang the song Stars, but I think it's really because I just like Stars a lot. Zach carved the Eagle Talon logo on his pumpkin. For those of you who don't know... the Eagle Talon is the car that is sitting in our garage waiting for a new transmission. It's his toy. ;-) I'd say the Shirley pumpkins turned out pretty good this year.

Once Zach gets the videos uploaded, I'll have some footage from the concert. Until then... hope everyone has a Happy Halloween!

State Fair

So this past weekend... I met up with my friend, Shanna and her kids at the great State Fair of Texas. It was so much fun, but very tiring. I felt like the entire day was spent walking from point A to point B. But besides that, I was able to get my State Fair staples... Fletcher's Corny Dogs, funnel cake and some Salt Water Taffy. Yummy goodness!

Here are Dalton and Dillon with Big Tex... good times...

After meeting up with Shanna, I met up with my sister at the fair. We ended up staying for the Third Day concert that night which was really good. Perfect weather, great concert, made for a great day!

On Sunday, we spent the afternoon at my parents house eating lunch with my parents, sister and my aunt and uncle. Here's a shot of Zach and Bailey waiting for lunch. Zach and I were trying to get Bailey to look at the camera, but it just wasn't working out.
Hopefully, this weekend I will have some pictures from our concert. Of course, I don't think that I will be able to take pictures inside Nokia Theatre, but I will take before and afters, that's for sure. I'll leave you with a little video of our pup...

Happy Birthday to Us!!! Zach and I spent last night at Dave & Buster's with our friends. It's a nice thing to work for a restaurant because we were able to treat all of our friends. The sleepy place

I thought since I hadn't ever posted pictures of our bathroom that it was about time I do so... this is the only room that we didn't touch as far as remodeling. There are a lot of things that we would love to do to this room, but that will be further down the road. Right now, it suits its' purpose and we love it! As you can tell the color scheme is blue and brown in this room. The shower is behind the door in the corner that I didn't take a picture of.

Finally, I can show you one of my favorite rooms in the house. We put some finishing touches on our master bedroom this weekend- hung the mirrors above the bed and put up the curtains. The curtains are my birthday present from my parents and I absolutely love them. They match the accent pillow on our bed and are kinda bronze in color. They look so pretty and they block out a lot of light in the mornings. It's wonderful!!!

This is our reading nook on the other side of the room. It's also where the tv is so that it's not the first thing that you see when you walk in the room. The tv was intentionally put on Zach's side of the bed because he watches it to fall asleep. I can just roll over to the other side and it's nice and dark.
And lastly our dresser... there's still a couple more Florence pictures to hang up in the room, but for the most part it's done. It's a relief! All that's left is the office and garage now. Not too much left in either room, but it will be wonderful when it's all done. Until next time... enjoy!

Landscaping Birthdays

Friday, Zach turned the big 27. It's been a celebration all week, but on Friday night we spent the night at home with a nice dinner and a movie. I made a homemade lasagna (even though I can't have cheese) and set the table all pretty just for the special occasion. This was really one of our first warm meals in the house. It was a great evening and one that we'll remember for a long time. The night was topped off with a little Will Farrell/Jon Heder action in Blades of Glory. Pretty hysterical movie... too bad in the middle of it we had to take it back to Blockbuster and trade it out because it kept skipping. Oh well. ;-)

Zach's birthday present this year from me... a set of nut drivers. To me this sounds like an odd request, but it's what he wanted, so it's what he got. Next time I buy any tools though, I'll make sure that I read the measurements... he had asked for Metric and I got Standard. How's a girl supposed to know. He exchanged it today for the right set, no problemo.

Zach's birthday present from my parents... a cabinet for the garage. This was an incredible deal on the HD because they were literally going to throw the cabinets away... it was marked off like 85%, so we now have beautiful storage in the garage and Zach has his very own workbench. He's thrilled!!! Also pictured is Zach's bday present from his parents... the mini fridge. It's perfect for holding all the cokes. I love that it frees up the fridge in the kitchen! Birthday present not pictured... is the one that my sister gave him. We have tickets to the Relient K/Switchfoot concert for October 26th. I can't tell you how excited I am about this concert. Two of my favorite bands and they are on tour together. (I know Zach is excited too, he's just not the one posting on a blog.) How amazing is that!! Can't wait!!

After birthday celebrations... we spent this weekend in the yard. It was time to get the shrubs in the ground. Zach worked hard with our friend, Tyson to get all the holly bushes dug up. The only one left was over 100 lbs. and it took a chain and my dad's truck to pull out. See that monster of a bush in the corner... there was no way Zach was getting that out by himself.

Now that all the holly is gone... here is what our front yard looks like. It's beautimous !!
The three shrubs in the middle are Indian Hawthorne, the two on each side are Texas Sage. We also have a fringe flower in the gap on the left hand side.

One the other side of the front door we have three oleander plants... they are supposed to grow to 8-10 feet. Right now, they are only 3 feet tall. We'll see. They bloom pretty pink flowers, so I'm excited about them.
And lastly, our yard gnome who faithfully watches the yard that we now have to put him in.
