Prime Time

Tonight my mom and I finished the primer in the bathroom. It already looks so much better and brighter than before. The navy blue paint in a really small space is just not a good idea. It will be light gray when we are finished. I was able to cross one more thing off my list tonight. Tomorrow night, I hope to primer the kitchen. We'll see.

Zach worked some more on the yard with my dad. There isn't a jungle anymore. It's being hauled away to the dump tomorrow.

We have now been homeowners for a week. While I realize that what we are doing is a lot of work, I'm proud so far of what Zach and I have accomplished. I'm thankful that we have this house, so that we can be doing work with our hands and not just sitting staring at the TV. It will be lots of fun to have projects to do in the house. The list will never end.

The Jungle

Several things happened today at the house. Zach finished mudding the wall. I finished the texture in the kitchen. My mom started the primer paint in the bathroom. Zach also finished hanging the fan in the master bedroom and painted the oven/stove black. It used to be almond colored. We are starting to make a dent in our list of stuff.

The big accomplishment that was made tonight was tearing down the jungle outside in the backyard. There was some very unruly bushes including a huge wisteria. My dad and Zach worked hard this evening for it to look like it does now, but they aren't quite done yet. Here's the progress.

After... with some work left to do.

I do...

Yesterday, we took a little break from house remodeling and made short trip to Austin. My roommate for 2 years at Harding got married yesterday to the love of her life that she met in Austin. So happy for her and the wedding was wonderful. Congratulations Amanda and Travis!

The wall

Zach had the whole day off on Friday, so he was working hard all day long. There is a wall in the bedroom downstairs that had been extended into the garage. Because of this extension it keeps us from parking either of our cars in the garage by about 1 foot. So Zach's project was to bring the wall back to it's original setting and then tear down the wall from the garage. Here's the original room...

Here is the framing of the wall....And now with all of the sheetrock on...While Zach worked hard on framing and sheetrocking, I had the tedious task of stripping more wallpaper. Again, I say that this was a very bad mistake of whoever decided to put the lovely lighthouse border up. This task is not near as easy as the kitchen wallpaper, it's coming off in about 1 or 2 inches squares as this border was put up over a textured wall. The wallpaper glue bonded with the texture and is now coming off in little bitty pieces. So it's an ongoing project.

Today's project is putting the texture on the kitchen walls. Hopefully with the help of my sister I'll be able to knock that out. There's always something to do. ;-)

The first project

Last night, we invited our friends over for a wallpaper tearing party. We were so grateful to have their help because we got all of the wallpaper off in the kitchen. There were two layers! It's at times like this that you wish you could go back to the person who was thinking of putting up wallpaper and tell them that it's not a good idea, but that didn't happen. So begins project #1.
Here is the kitchen as it used to look....

And now with no wallpaper or dirty dishes. Also new light fixtures. It already makes a world of difference....

Zach's project tomorrow is demolishing a wall and I'll be painting the bathroom. We made a Home Depot trip tonight that should keep us busy for a long while now. More to come...

Homeowners

It's official! Yesterday we signed all the closing documents for our very first home in Lewisville. Last night began the process... we mowed, edged and did lots of yardwork and began to take inventory on what needed to be done. We have about a month to get our projects done and move as our lease isn't up until the end of August. That's a very good thing because our list of projects keeps growing....
